Perodua teases upcoming Axia

SECOND national car maker Perodua announced that its upcoming new model called the Axia is now open for booking starting last week, releasing these teaser images along with the announcement.
The Axia is Perodua's tenth new model in its 21-year-long history, and will be available in five variants. All variants are powered by a brand new all-aluminium Daihatsu sourced 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine code-named 1KR-DE2.
The mill generates a maximum of 66hp at 6,000rpm and peak torque of 90Nm at 3,600rpm. Paired to either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission, the power-train boasts low claimed fuel consumption figures of 21.6km/litre and 20.1km/litre respectively.
Perodua also released a complete tentative pricing table for the Axia, with the range starting from RM24,900 for the standard 'E' variant with manual transmission. Topping off the range is the fully-equipped 'Advanced' variant priced at RM45,300.
During a special media presentation held earlier this week, Perodua CEO Datuk Aminar Rashid revealed that the firm has successfully collected 3,500 bookings for the Axia so far.
The new model, which is the first certified Malaysian-made Energy Efficient Vehicle in accordance to the new National Automotive Policy (NAP), will be launched sometime in September.
